ITANAGAR, Apr 18: Twelve days training programme of community volunteers under AAPDA Mitra programme of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India was inaugurated by Secretary, Disaster Management, Dani Salu at Lekhi Village, Naharlagun. Resource persons from State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Fire Service will impart both theoretical as well practical trainings to the volunteers on disaster response.
The programme is focussed on training of 1100 volunteers from 11 most disaster-prone districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The programme aims to provide skills to respond to community’s immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster, thereby enabling them to undertake basic relief and rescue tasks during emergency situations.
Director, Disaster Management Komkar Dulom welcomed the first batch of 50 volunteers from Pakke Kessang district. He further explained the importance of disaster preparedness and awareness to the volunteers. He emphasized that the trained volunteers will be an asset to society. 
Deputy Superintendent of Police (SDRF), Techi Tab gave a brief remark on functions and resources available with State Disaster Response Force and placement of SDRF at five regional response centres. He further mentioned on the various trainings of volunteers conducted by SDRF in the State.
Secretary, Disaster Management Dani Salu through his key note address stated that Arunachal Pradesh being located in the Himalayan region faces various vulnerabilities such as earthquake, landslide, flash flood etc.   Since the communities are the first responder to any form of disasters, he emphasized on training of community members at every level to reduce risks. He further mentioned the various activities undertaken by Government of India and by the State Government for disaster preparedness. He concluded his address by advising the participants to actively participate in the training programme.
