PASIGHAT, Apr 3: In one of the biggest cash seizures in the state since the Model Code of Conduct came into force, the election monitoring officials here on  late Tuesday night seized unaccounted cash of about Rs 1.8 crore  from a vehicle allegedly meant for state BJP's Mebo assembly constituency candidate.
The seizure was made following a tip-off to the flying squad by a group of youths who assembled at Siang Guest House, Pasighat. According to the police the huge sum of cash was brought in one of the vehicle of the CM’s convoy.
After intercepting three vehicles i.e two Endeavors and one Scorpio and a thorough search, Rs 1.8 crore in cash was recovered from the Scorpio, making it one the biggest seizure in the state so far.
However, when asked about the seizure, the East Siang SP avoided the question saying he is too busy to talk to the press at the moment.
State BJP president Tapir Gao when contacted maintained that although the cash had been recovered from one of their aspiring candidate, it has nothing to do with the party. Gao clarified that the cash was  Dr. D Perme's personal money.
He also refuted that the vehicles from which cash was recovered belongs to the chief minister or state BJP president as circulated in social networking sites. It is the design of opposition party to malign BJP ahead of the elections, he reiterated.
“The seized cash belongs to Mebo assembly constituency's BJP candidate. And the owner already accepted it and is ready to furnish required documents to explain the source of the money and purpose,” Gao added.
When inquired about the vehicles used for the transportation, Gao clarified that the particular vehicle from which the cash was recovered was not part of the CM's convoy and the video has wrongly projected the whole episode.
