Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

In an unprecedented cyber event on Friday, netizens across North East India comprising of seven states took part in a 'Twitter Storm' to demand inclusion of a chapter on the region in the national education curriculum. Drawing the attention of the Union government and the “who's who” of the country, netizens trended #AChapterforNE and #NortheastMatters at spot 2 and 3 to register its protest against repeated racial profiling, slurs and discriminations meted out to the NE people.

This event comes in the backdrop of a recent incident in which a YouTuber named Paras Singh from Ludhiana profiled former Union Minister and current Congress MLA from Ruksin, Ninong Ering as being 'non-Indian' and called Arunachal Pradesh a part of China.

Attributing  such attitude of the mainland Indians to lack of knowledge and information about the region , netizens demanded compulsory chapter about the region’s art, culture, history and geography in the national education curriculum.
It goes without saying that, the geographical area which comprises India's northeast has found little space when one speaks from a national standpoint. The obliteration of this thriving and vibrant part of the country is quite stark and has resulted in a sort of naivety among the rest of the countrymen about their own.

Education is the only weapon to bring positive change and this 'curriculum barricade' with regards to the NE in the national education curriculum doesn't help matters. Seven plus decades have passed, what's stopping our policy makers from bringing in a more inclusive curriculum to help people know their country better.

The message has been conveyed loud and clear and it's now on the elected representatives particularly of the region to give it momentum and see that it comes to fruition.
