Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

Soon after passing of the J&K Reorganisation Bill in RS on August 5, Union Cabinet Secretary issued instructions to the Chief Secretaries, DGPs, Principal Secretary/Commissioner(Home) of all States/UTs asking them to take pre-emptive measures for ensuring total law and order in their respective territories. As a continuation of the Centre’s instruction, state Chief Secretary on Tuesday has also asked the DCs and SPs of the respective districts of the state to show zero tolerance to any activity that might hamper law & order situation. Not only in Arunachal, extreme alertness is visible all over the country since the issue is gargantuan in character with strong ripples expected to be witnessed in immediate days. In this volatile landscape, maintaining peace and normalcy not only within the troubled J&K, but also all throughout the nation will be a challenging task that would demand high sensibility and not military prowess alone.
If the chain of events that unfolded before the fateful day which saw the nullification of Article 370 is analysed, it was a clear precursor that something serious was in the offing. Heavy deployment of troops loaded in trucks making beelines in National Highways that lead to J&K formed the breaking news. After intelligence inputs which confirmed that terrorists had made multiple attempts in July end to cross LOC and carry out terror strikes on Amarnath pilgrims, the Centre was compelled to cut short the Yatra entirely on security grounds. As of now, at least 8,000 paramilitary troops have been airlifted to supplement the existing 30,000, signifying the gravity of the situation. And with the stationing of the National Security Advisor in that state it is now clear that Central government is in no mood to take chances. Although it will be difficult to predict how long the ‘Paradise on Earth’ will have to bear this ‘airtight existence’, most experts are of the opinion that it would be indefinite. Meanwhile, international focus has also started falling over the issue with negative reactions expectedly flowing swiftly from Pakistan which has declared that it would observe August 15, India’s Independence Day as Black Day with further plans of downgrading diplomatic relations, suspending bilateral trade and taking the matter to the UN, including the Security Council, where they have been outplayed miserably only a few weeks before.
Death of a protester in Srinagar on Wednesday, according to many experts might be the forerunner to outbursts of the simmering discontent that may take ugly routes. Maintaining peace within Kashmir and well across the nation being the foremost motto, it will really be the testing times from now onwards  for the Central government as well as the states.
