Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

It is always a common observation that for economic progress, industrialization always plays a prominent role. This holds good even if the dominant nature of the economy is agriculture which is applicable in case of India too. From the days of economic liberalization to the current times when the country is a 2.7 trillion dollar economy, it’s industrialization which has been the main player in economic progress. Arunachal hasn’t had its presence felt in this national journey so far due to various arguable reasons despite having potential. Absence of the pursuit of a steady goal of industrialization has been a feature not only in state but also by and large over the entire NE region over a solid period of time. Despite the abundance of factors that propel the process of industrialization, with natural resources being foremost, the largest state of the region had remained out of the loop so far as regional priorities of industrial policies are concerned. The Act East Policy which is currently under perusal has reignited the region’s industrial hope. Under this context, it’s now the opportune moment for Arunachal to derive as much benefits from the policy and for that it needs to fine-tune itself to emerge as a major player among the NE lot.
The ideas of setting up industrial zones and attracting investors have been reiterated by political as well as people from bureaucracy recently. These are progressive thoughts no doubt and to realize them, it should be pertinent to remind that the state must plunge into a hyper-active mode of functioning if it really wants to efface its labels of slow performer and late starter. All the ongoing as well as activities in the offing, cutting across sectors, whether be it power, food processing and agro-based to name a few, must first meet their respective completion deadlines and this is apart from the communication infrastructures under process of making. Bumpy roads, poor cellular and data services are the real weak points of the state and without swift rectification, it will be really hard to convince any investor, from within the country and overseas for investment propositions of any volume. Completion of the airport strictly within schedule will always remain a very vital assignment since it will boost the state’s image of a serious contender for overall progress and industrialization. Argi-horticulture, fishery and  those having proven indigenous excellence such as handicrafts, loin loom, bamboo and a host of others are the state’s inherent strengths that needs to be prioritised.
Drawbacks have remained constant companions so far, making the investors sceptical. The trend can be reversed only if these homework are completed with an aggressive zeal. It is this thrust that is most needed in the way forward to an industrialized Arunachal.
