Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

The lifting of the ICR lockdown from Monday must have brought a great amount of relief to the Capital denizens in general and the business community in particular.

In a strange coincidence, on the same day, ICMR Director-General Dr Balram Bhargava in an interview to a major news agency has made some important observations which has deep relevance in the current context when many of the states have been somehow compelled to think beyond the lockdown route of containment of the pandemic, all due to overarching economic reasons. The key scientist who has been involved in monitoring the Covid-19 situation in the country since day one has said that it is quite difficult even for the apex medical research body of the country to make a sure-shot prediction whether there will be a second wave of the pandemic in places which are now witnessing a gradual decline. If this is a big takeaway from the conversation, the bigger one must be his emphasis on full and uninterrupted participation by all citizens, if the challenge is to be won.  The latter one, undoubtedly holds overwhelming bearing on Arunachal, whether in the ICR or any other pocket as unlocking must have to be taken, intermittent or otherwise for resumption of economic activities. After this revelation, or rather a clarion call by the ICMR Chief, the phrase: “living with the pandemic” becomes much more relevant than ever before and that means, the citizenry of the state, from now onwards will not only be the deciders of their individual health quotient, but also their collective behaviour will be the determining factor of the success rate in overcoming the pandemic. However cliché and boring it may sound on ears, this appeal will continue to be reverberated by the top brass of the country’s medical fraternity.

The ICMR chief has been categorical in making it clear that while there is much haziness about the chances of a resurfacing of the virus in the later months of the year, it’s also not sure where and in what degree the region-wise manifestations might occur. Deciphering the words, the gist that comes out is that every region of the country which has vast geographical and demographical features have to remain alert as even after sustained research on Covid-19, there is still a lot left to know and understand, based on which the combat measures of the future can be chalked out.

The caveats point towards one thing- along with rapidly upscaling all the medical and testing protocols, the cooperation from the common people will count till the virus has a final solution i.e. the vaccine.

It will be most encouraging if the ICR denizens and the state’s people ingrain it in their mind and reflect it in their behavioural lifestyle. ‘Prevention is better than cure’- the proverb once more is relevant.
