Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission has decided to conduct the rescheduled APPSCCE Preliminary 2020 on November 1 next and the District Administrations have upscaled their preparations in this regard. Unlike previous years, this edition of the prestigious examination is going to be extraordinary as the fear of Covid-19 is very much palpable. Under prevailing circumstances, there will obviously be differences of opinion regarding the exam’s conduct at this juncture when cases are rising in the state with feelings also that there should be a further deferment. Taking a decision on a sensitive issue like this has presumably been a difficult one for the state administration, but, there is no way left perhaps except to go ahead since there is hardly an iota of surety that the pandemic is going to vanish very soon.

It can be recalled that the said exam which was earlier scheduled for May 17 had to be postponed indefinitely due to the pandemic’s marauding march. This has been the exact case this year for all competitive exams held annually across the country and now that it has been realised, even if in a hard way, that there is no alternative but to live with the pandemic, the held-up exams are gradually being conducted and remaining ones are also in pipeline. The JEE-NEET which caused a national uproar, subsequently taking the matter to the SC were finally conducted a few weeks ago and as of now there is no news that any health mishap has occurred. UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2020 which also had to be deferred from the earlier May schedule was conducted without much hiccups on October 4 last and same was the case for the UGC NET exams. Smooth sail of all these major exams have definitely bolstered confidence that it’s doable even during the tough Covid times. All that is needed is a couple of extra layers of preventive precautions and logistics support to the candidates by the administration.

There are no reasons why the above result-yielding methodologies will not be successful in Arunachal, if the implementation part is taken special care of. The state administration at the helm and the respective district administrations must formulate air-tight health security measures and most importantly ensure logistics aid to the candidates, an aspect which suffers from perennial infirmity and has aggravated due to the pandemic. The Papum Pare DA has taken an appreciable decision to accommodate the Covid positive examinees by arranging isolated sitting facilities and this must be the benchmark for all exam centres across the state.

Life must not be subjected to an indefinite halt due to the pandemic. The examinees must take extra personal hygiene precautions and the administration must also walk that extra mile to successfully overcome the approaching APPSCCE challenge.
