Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

It has been a rather sombre beginning of the week as during the last 24 hours, 28,701 fellow citizens have fallen victims to the pandemic, which is the biggest single-day hike so far taking the overall count to over 8.78 lakh infections. Amid this catastrophic milieu, the only bright spot is the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Monday that as many as nineteen states and UTs have a Covid-19 recovery rate higher than the national average of 63.02 %. In addition to this, which is perhaps more encouraging is that 30 states and UTs that have a fatality rate lower than the national average of 2.64 per cent. The crux of this latest revelation is that, even if the caseloads are increasing, simultaneous recovery is also taking place, which otherwise means, there is little rationality in harping entirely on the ballooning figures of additions and deaths and complete recovery, in most cases is very much attainable. Arunachal has tasted some good news as a few of the districts have regained the status as Covid-free.
The Central Ministry has attributed the rising graph of recovery to the ongoing “pro-active, pre-emptive and coordinated steps” being implemented by the state governments in confronting the pandemic, which is no doubt the severe-most public health emergency so far faced by India. Factually speaking, the norms and standards for home isolation care that are being routinely revised along with an effective implementation of the containment zone declaration policy and associated surveillance activities have ensured a holistic approach to the critical situation. With the first signs of success coming, the aim must be to upscale all the above measures without waiting for the vaccine to arrive as the ultimate saviour.
In terms of recovery figures, although Arunachal (current recovery rate is around 38%) has not figured in the above 19 states and UTs where recovery rate is above the national average, its fatality rate which is 0.56 % is far below the current national average of 2.64 % and among the lowest in the country. The state administration’s target must be to quickly improve the recovery rate and that is not at all impossible, since, the rate of daily additions is lower than the overall national figures. To attain it, betterment of the medical as well as clinical attainment infrastructure in the state and more effective implementation of the SOPs is the only effective route. The central idea should be to downscale the daily caseloads and undertake simultaneous efforts in making sure that all the current active cases get fully recovered.
With this dual strategy, the state can very well reach as well as surpass the national Covid recovery rate within a reasonable time frame.
