Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

There can be no doubt that Arunachal Pradesh and the country as a whole is passing through the critical-most phase of the Covid-19 fightback. Without resorting to any oblique means of presenting facts, it must be accepted that the process of ‘climbing the peak’ has started and it’s going to be a long haul. Even if acknowledging the fear which has now gripped the state in general and the Capital denizens in particular as natural, it also needs to be reminded once more that it’s the way things get unfolded in the pandemic. This has been a marked feature across the world and India and however stringent the protective walls have been, the extreme contagious qualities of the coronavirus has befooled all. Echoing the medical fraternity, it needs to be repeated once more that citizens must not allow fear to climb up to the level of panic and desirably, should construe it as a propeller for infusing more caution. The rapid hike of cases in the Capital is a further wake-up call that callous attitude is a sure invitation to the virus. As of now, uncertainty about the vaccine or any medicinal relief is a constant certainty and it’s better not to expect anything magical overnight.
The IMA-AP on Wednesday has assured the state’s people especially the Capital denizens that currently it’s Stage-II which in medical terminology is ‘local transmission’, meaning that contact tracing will not be an onerous task. This has also been the reiteration of the state’s health bureaucracy lately. But since this is the most critical stage, the primary task is to make sure that Stage-III is avoided at any cost. But even after sincere efforts, if a failure is confronted, without losing nerves, the foremost objective will be to make a fast identification of the silent switch-over and alter plans accordingly. For this a constant vigil is necessary and the trusted tool of testing should be used in a much larger manner than the first two stages of the pandemic and combat plans specific to the needs for Stage-III must be kept prepared beforehand.
Despite all these efforts, unless the citizens show genuine cooperation, at the end of the day, the cumulative fightback will be rendered superficial. The behaviour of a certain section of denizens who are obstructing the making of Covid Care facilities will boomerang on them in the long run and will only allow the pandemic to rise further. There are also examples of constructive community responses in many parts of the state where new suggestions as arsenals to the battle have been put forward to the DAs which deserve appreciation.
Standing at the crossroads, reason and responsibility must prevail. To win the Covid war, both citizens and administration must deliver them in greater quantities.
