Itanagar, Nov 27: The Arunachal Pradesh Public Health Engineering & Water Supply Department (PHED) Workers Union has threatened to resort to a three-day ‘tool down strike’ starting December 5, after the state government failed to respond to their  14-day ultimatum, demanding the promotion and absorption of 5963 casual workers as Work-Charged (WC) employees.
Addressing a press conference, the union expressed frustration over the state’s failure to address their long-pending demands, despite decades of service by many casual workers. “Casual workers who have dedicated years—even decades—of service to the department deserve recognition. However, they remain neither regularized nor absorbed as WC employees,” stated a union representative.
In addition to their primary demand, the union has urged the government to create at least 50% of posts within the PHED department to ensure job security and career progression for those casual workers.
Union members revealed that they have repeatedly approached the PHED Minister and the Chief Engineer to discuss these issues, but no positive response has been received. “We have been left with no choice but to take this step. The ultimatum is our final effort to seek resolution. If our demands are not met, the three-day pen-down strike will go ahead as planned,” added the representative.
