ITANAGAR, Nov 4:  The Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) on Saturday served 7-day ultimatum to the state government demanding immediate maintenance of National Highway 415 (Package A and B), while threatening to organize democratic movements and take legal proceedings, if necessary.
In a press conference held at the press club here, APYC President Tarh Johny expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of NH 415, from Itanagar to Banderdewa, while stating that the work on this road is going on at snail pace.
He said that the people of the state in general and Itanagar Capital Region in particular have been facing lots of difficulties for last 5-6 years because of bad road conditions. The most affected are the daily commuters like office goers, school kids, college students, daily wage earners, and even patients who have to bear the brunt of bad roads.
Moreover, traffic jams are frequent phenomena which is not less than any nightmare for commuters of this road. Even tourists coming to visit the state capital have to face difficulties, thereby, leaving a bad impression which is not good for the growth and image of the state in the tourism sector, he added.
Further, Johny said that the quality of work done on said road is not up to expectation as the inferiority of the road is revealed during monsoon season. Recently, many portions of NH 415 between Chandranagar to Papu Nallah got washed away or peeled off due to rainfall, and many potholes have occurred on the road giving bumpy ride to commuters.
The Package-A road stretch is only about 10 km, which was inaugurated with much fanfare by CM Pema Khandu in March 2021. Unfortunately, the euphoria of the road is short-lived as it is now in dilapidated condition due to inferior quality, he added.
To the utter dismay of commuters, damaged portions have been left unattended till date, thereby posing a threat to lives and properties, he maintained.
We are doubtful about the quality of work that has been executed as per norms, he said while questioning the state government whether the ongoing work of NH 415 is done as per the NHIDCL guidelines.
He also questioned the state government for ignoring to repair damaged portions of the road and why the work is going on at snail pace despite the end of monsoon to date.
“APYC will hit the street with a series of democratic movements and legal proceedings accordingly if the state government fails to repair the aforementioned stretch of roads within time period of a week”, stated the APYC President.
