NAHARLAGUN, Jan 17: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Naharlagun Police, under Operation Dawn 2.0, apprehended a suspected drug peddler, Ngurang Sensu, 20, and seized 18 grams of suspected heroin during a late-night operation on January 14.
Acting on credible intelligence, a police team led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev, Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station, and Sub-Inspector Vivek Linggi, along with Constables Sanu Raj and B Mitkong, conducted a targeted raid at A-Sector, Naharlagun. The operation was carried out under the supervision of SP Naharlagun, Mihin Gambo, IPS, and SDPO Naharlagun, Rishi Longdo.
During the raid, 2.7 grams of suspected heroin were recovered from the accused’s possession. Upon further interrogation, the accused disclosed the presence of additional contraband at his rented residence in Nyigam Colony, Naharlagun.
With the assistance of EAC Naharlagun,  Khoda Bath, the police conducted a search of the premises and recovered 12 plastic vials containing 15.3 grams of suspected heroin. The total seizure of 18 grams of heroin is estimated to be worth ₹54,000 in the local market.
The accused has been booked under Naharlagun PS Case No. 08/25 U/S 21(b)/29 of the NDPS Act. Preliminary investigations suggest that the contraband was sourced from Assam and intended for distribution within the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), targeting vulnerable youth.
SP Naharlagun, Mihin Gambo, IPS, lauded the coordinated efforts of the police team and reiterated the department’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the region. "Operation Dawn 2.0 reflects our dedication to ensuring a safer, drug-free community. We urge the public to support our efforts by reporting suspicious activities," he stated.
