ITANAGAR, Aug 24: The Yobin Welfare Society (YWS) has expressed gratitude to the state and central government for the approval of the Arunachal Frontier Highway, particularly the Miao to Vijoynagar (MV) Road segment. However, the organization has raised serious concerns over the handling of land compensation for affected residents.
Speaking to the media at the Press Club, YWS, led by its President Ngwazosa Yobin, called on the state government to address these issues urgently, emphasising that transparency and fairness in compensation are crucial to the project's success.
Ngwazosa Yobin stated that in a notification issued on 7th February 2024, the Arunachal government promised fair compensation and transparency in land acquisition for the highway project. However, the YWS alleged that the Chungking District administration has failed to provide due compensation to rightful landowners along the 40 to 80-mile stretch of the MV Road. The affected area includes several long-established villages such as Aguhomu (Nibodi), Josadi, Midodi, Yachejolo, Yacheley, and Sichoto, where residents have lived since the 1930s. Despite their clear entitlement, these forest dwellers have reportedly been excluded from compensation list.
He further reported that the compensation survey from 80 miles to Vijoynagar was conducted without any public notification, resulting in many legitimate landowners being excluded from the compensation list. To further exacerbate the issue, 36 individuals from ex-servicemen or non-APST settlers in Vijoynagar have been included as beneficiaries, raising further questions about the fairness of the process, asserted Ngwazosa.
