ITANAGAR, Dec 1: World AIDS Day was observed across the state on Friday with various programmes held to raise awareness on HIV/ AIDS. The theme for the 2023 World Aids Day was ‘Let Communities lead’.
At Dera Natung Government College Itanagar the programme was organized by NSS Unit & Red Ribbon Club of the College. As part of the celebration essay competition, drama play and awareness session were conducted based on the theme of HIV/AIDS and its awareness.
Dr. Chello Lima NSS Programme Officer cum Coordinator Red Ribbon Club, motivated the students to breaks down the barriers, challenge discrimination and support communities leading the way to end AIDS.
The principal of the College, Dr. M.Q Khan appreciated, motivated and encouraged the students to take more active part in spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS by optimum use of social media platforms.
Lod Yebi, Peer Educator of the Red Ribbon Club also spoke on the occasion.
YINGKIONG: World AIDS Day was observed at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidyalaya, Yingkiong.
Dr Ahik Miyu, District TB Officer cum District AIDS Control Officer, Upper Siang District spoke on the various routes of HIV transmission, preventive measures, services available under the programme and need for getting tested for HIV in the ICTC. While sharing the comparative HIV-AIDS data of the state till 30th September 2020 and 31st March 2023, he expressed concern about the alarming quantum jump in the HIV seropositive prevalence. He exhorted the youths to desist from substance abuse, particularly intravenous drug abuse to prevent HIV transmission. He encouraged voluntary testing of all to know one’s own HIV status at the earliest possible.
Since Tuberculosis is an important coinfection, commonly associated with HIV infection, he dealt in length about Tuberculosis- its cause, mode of transmission, sign & symptoms, free diagnosis and treatment and other financial incentives. He encouraged early health seeking behavior to cut down further transmission to the community.
Earlier on November 30 last, similar outreach activity was conducted at Govt Higher Secondary School Yingkiong.
DEOMALI: The NSS Unit, W.R.Govt. College, Deomali celebrated World AIDS Day amidst a huge gathering.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC Vishakha Yadav urged upon the gathering to spread awareness on the deadly disease of HIV/AIDS with an idea to contain the spread of the virus.
Dr. Jayanti Thingnok, District AIDS Control Officer elaborately dealt on the importance of celebrating World AIDS Day and urged upon everyone to be empathetic towards persons infected with HIV/AIDS.
Chayon Bangyang, Principal Incharge, W.R.Govt. College, also addressed the gathering.
BOMDILA: Along with the rest of the nation, the District AIDS Control Society (DACO) of West Kameng District observed World AIDS Day at General Hospital, Bomdila, involving PRI Members, SHGs, and Women Wings of West Kameng.
An orientation session took place, urging all participating stakeholders to engage in the race to educate people about HIV.
The program concluded with the screening of 21 beneficiaries.
