PASIGHAT, Oct 8: The weeklong celebration of 70th National Wildlife Week under D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary in East Siang District concluded at Anchalghat Wildlife Range office situated along the Assam-Arunachal boundary today. Winners of Essay and Painting competition on wildlife were given prizes with certificates on the occasion.
The programme was attended by Gaon Burahs of Oyan and Sika Tode villages along with prominent person from Jampani area, Tate Saroh and Eco-Development Committee/Community Surveillance & Monitoring Team (EDC/CSMT) of D. Ering WLS with winning students and their teaching staff and Head master.
Speaking at the sidelines, Jotin Bori, HGB Oyan, Tago Siram, GB Sika Tode and Basonsing Pao, GB Oyan pledged their support to the conservation effort of the management of the sanctuary and said such awareness programme about the importance of wildlife should continue as part of the outreach programme. The village authorities also assured to extend their parallel support to the sanctuary authorities in securing the sanctuary from hunters and poachers. They also appealed to the DFO to recruit more unemployed youths from the fringe villages of the sanctuary.
Talen Talom, Headmaster, GSS Sika Bamin in his short deliberation said that the sanctuary belongs to the public and must a prerogative of the public of fringe villages to protect the sanctuary’s rich flora & fauna. “My students and teaching staff of GSS Sika Bamin are very interested in wildlife conservation activities and effort will be made from our side too to spread more awareness among the students and parents for the true conservation of wildlife of the D. Ering WLS,” added Talom.
EDC/CSMT Chairman, Maksam Tayeng and Coordinator, Okii Modi also spoke in detail about the timely need to secure the sanctuary from all kinds of illegalities. Both assured that the body will keep up its spirit in trying to create a better bridge between the management of the sanctuary and the village administration without whose collective cooperation the sanctuary’s protection will not be successful.  
DFO, D. Ering WLS, Kempi Ete said that her office is open for the public, especially for village authorities to discuss any conservation related matter of the sanctuary. She reiterated that without public support full protection of the sanctuary is not possible.
Students winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in secondary level in essay competition were Ms Okenmang Nyitan (Class X), Shri Samuel Nyitan (Class IX) and Ms Maloti Gao (Class X), while in upper primary level painting competition winners were Ms Yangki Nyitan (Class VIII), Shri Mibom Nyitan (Class VII) and Ms Yagin Gao (Class VII) respectively.
