Aalo, Sep 24: Under the National Health Mission, West Siang Deputy Commissioner, Mamu Hage formally launched the National Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0 being organised by District Health Society at Aalo today.
Dr. Tsering Wangmu DPO, NCD highlighted the aims and objective of the campaign to the participants. Tobacco and tobacco products are mainly attracting the youths and youth must know about the harmful effects of the tobacco and its product the officer said.
The DC told the participants that the campaign is launching all across the country to make it tobacco free. The National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) was launched in the year 2007-2008 with an objective to create awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption. The youth and students must be aware of the harmful effects of tobacco to human bodies, she said. She appealed to the people of West Siang to take part during the tobacco free awareness programme.
"Arunachal Pradesh is higher than average tobacco consumption state of India,” she informed while urging the health department to emphasise more on the awareness campaign.
DC informed all the shopkeepers of West Siang not to sell Gutkhas, tobacco and its products without obtaining valid license. Illegal selling of Cigrattes, Bidis, Gutkas should be immediately stop. She also informed the ICDS and Education department of West Siang District to conduct more awareness campaign on tobacco free and harmful effects of the tobacco.
The launching of 60-day Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0 will end on November 23 next.
