Aalo, Oct 14: The West Siang team which won the under 16 Boys football in the just concluded Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy (HDMT) 2024 which was held at Namsai was given a befitting welcome upon their arrival back home by MLA Topin Ete and Deputy Commissioner Mamu Hage at the circuit house Aalo today.
The West Siang football team became the champion in the sudden death, penalty shot against Namsai by a 5-4 margin. Twenty four districts participated in the tournament.
The DC congratulated the team and advised the young players to maintain the winning spirit in the near future also and said it is a proud moment for West Siang.
MLA Topin Ete also advised the young players to keep up the sportsmanship spirit and highlighted the job scope in government service. He also encouraged the young players by taking the name of Sri Gumpe Rime of West Siang  who is currently appointed as Goal Keeper coach at Reliance Foundation young champs. He also said that West Siang is regaining the lost glory in the field of sports. During 1986 and 1988 West Siang was also in the final match of Subroto Cup. He assured to help the sportspersons of the District in any time.
"Besides the non-existence of good football field, becoming the champion at the state level is a proud moment for all of us,” he said.
