HYDERABAD, Sep 15: One of the major products of animal husbandry — meat, significantly contributes to the economic sustainability of the livestock farmers, and Arunachal Pradesh has high potentiality for production of organic meat, both for domestic consumption as well as export business. Realizing the vast gap between demand and supply of quality meat and its by-products, a delegation of senior officers led by Animal Husbandry & Veterinary minister Gabriel D.Wangsu visited the National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad on Saturday to get first-hand information on innovative activities, and research programme being carried out in the institute.
“NMRI is a perfect institution that can potentially help in upscaling the skill of our youths in processing, preservation and packaging technologies; I can foresee the institute contribute in a big way for leveraging growth especially in meat technology in my state,” the minister said while describing his visit as an enriching one.
While appreciating the various research activities undertaken by the institute, Wangsu sought collaboration of NMRI, Hyderabad to make livestock, particularly the organic livestock, more commercially viable for farmers and youths. The farmers from Arunachal can be trained by expert scientists for encouraging scientific way of slaughter and meat processing in the state, he observed and expressed willingness of the state government to further explore scopes of venturing in to avenues of hygienic meat processing technology.
Earlier, appreciating the farsightedness of the visiting minister from Arunachal Pradesh, the faculties of the institute comprising of principal scientists Dr B.M Naveena, Dr. M Muthukumar, Dr. Baswa Reddy and Dr. C Ramakrishna gave a detail power point presentation on the institute’s mandatesand various research activities. The minister and his team also visited various facilities of the NMRI especially on meat processing unit, R&D activities, DNA testing lab for animal meat, pet animal feed production and value addition units besides portable slaughter house suitable for the hilly states like Arunachal Pradesh.
ICAR-NMRI Hyderabad provides one-stop solution to all the problems related to slaughter houses and for production of hygienic meat in compliance with all Govt.regulations.
The Minister was accompanied by Secretary Animal Husbandry Hage Tari, Director Danjan Longri, Joint Director Karbom Basar, Deputy Director Nyokar Taipodia, Senior Veterinary officer Seba Yomdo.
