Nirjuli, Aug 19: A colourful remembrance programme celebrating the life and times of Lt. Capt K K Venkatraman, popularly called ‘Capt Sir’ or ‘Captji’, former Secretary of VKVs in Arunachal, was organized by VKV Alumni Association on Sunday at VKV Nirjuli. 
Lt.Capt KK Venkatraman who worked with Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas from 1983 to 1993 personally guided and provided coaching to many senior VKVians for various entrance examinations in those times. After he moved back to south, he became a guardian to all the Arunachali students pursuing their education in southern India.
Captainji passed away in Chennai on the morning of 27 May, 2024. He was 76, and was living a frugal but active life all alone.
Senior members of VKV Alumni Association KalingTayeng,  IAS, Principal Secretary Home, Advocate Pritam Taffo, Dr Kesang Wangdi, Medical Superintendent Heema Hospital,  Maling Gombu social activist, Dr Mingam Pertin, Chairman VKVAA, Basang Waghe,  social activist, Smt Mitali Namchoom,  IAS, Dr Manumati Munglang and Er Leelalu Chai recalled their touching memories of Captji; his discipline, work ethics, his detail to perfection, and the concept of work is worship that he lived and breathed. 
Shri Ramasubramanian, the younger brother of Capt Sir and cousin Shri Ramnarayan,  sharing their profound sense of joy for being able to come to Arunachal to attend the Remembrance Day programme, spoke about how deeply touched they were to see such abundant affections from the Arunachali students for Captji. 
Shri Shekhar Sheshadri, a life-long friend shared little known anecdotes on Captji’s principled life. 
All the three appealed to the Alumni to create a living annual event to uphold the principles of Lt. Captainji andoffered to contribute for the cause. 
Dr G A Chandrashekhara, a former VKV teacher,  Dr Ambika Aiyadurai, Assoc Prof, IIT Gandhinagar, Kotige Mena ,social activist and Sathyanarayanan Mundayoor ( Uncle Moosa), Coordinator Lohit Youth Libraries also spoke on the occasion.  
As a part the program, Lohit Youth Library Network presented a video show on Lt. Capt Sir’s life and his contributions to Arunachali youth and their educational advancement.
The video showcased his life from his tenure in the Army as a young Capt in Kumaon regiment (1967-73), his life of service in VKVs in Arunachal (1983-93), the gruelling 131 day- Narmada Parikrama he undertook (1987-88)  and the Vivek Jyoti Walkathon he organised for the students of Arunachal in Dec 1992, his efforts to popularise Param Veer Chakra awardees among the public and above all, his role as  a father figure to all VKV and non-VKV students in Chennai from 1992 to 2024.  
Also in an apt tribute to Capt Sir who was instrumental in bringing the Army band and parade to VKV schools, VKV Nirjuli girl students presented a spectacular band display.
