ITANAGAR, Nov 29: In a shocking incident, reports of ragging and physical assaults has emerged from the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy, Chimpu after an unknown video of few students went viral on social media. Responding to the incident, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU), parents of students, and the police rushed to the campus to ascertain the ground reality.
AAPSU’s Sports Secretary, Zentle Mosu, informed that during the visit, it was established that the viral video on social media was not from the SLSA. However, it was disclosed that a similar incident occurred in the hostel premises of the academy. According to reports from the students, it was revealed that few senior students had assaulted junior students in the absence of the Hostel Warden, causing grievous injuries.
"We have spoken to the Director of Sports and urged him to initiate a thorough inquiry into the issue. AAPSU will also seek intervention from higher authorities in the incident. We have been informed that such incidents are not new in the SLSA, so we want a clear investigation into the incident," added Mosu.
Expressing concern over the incident, Director of Sports, Tadar Apa assured that a proper investigation will be initiated, and action will be taken against the students or staff found guilty. He further informed that the students have neither complained to the school principal about such assaults or ragging by other students in the campus nor to their respective coaches earlier.
"We have always advised them to share their complaints to avoid such incidents," added the Director of Sports.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police, Capital Region, Rohit Rajbir Singh has confirmed that the viral video is not from SLSA, Chimpu, and the police is trying their best to establish the video's sources. He also stated that a police team has reached the SLSA to investigate the matter. Furthermore, he appealed to the public not to circulate the video, which is not from the SLSA.
The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society has written to the Member Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Child Welfare Committee in the Itanagar Capital Region regarding the viral video depicting the beating of a school child.
In the letter, President APWWS Kani Nada Maling expressed deep shock over the incident, urging authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry and emphasizing the importance of the child’s well-being and safety. Maling also called for swift intervention and a proper investigation into the bullying incident at Sangey Lhaden Sports School, highlighting that the incident might not have surfaced without the viral video.
She appealed to the concerned authority of Sangay Lhaden Sport Academy to immediately constitute a committee to unearth the incident taking place in the hostel and take necessary action against the person involved, ensuring that no such incident happens in the near future. Furthermore, she mentioned that although no complaint has been made to the Society, it is often heard that such incidents take place in many school hostels. This incident involving children should serve as an eye-opener to all school authorities.
Additionally, Maling questioned the government for the delay in reconstitution of the Arunachal Pradesh State Committee for the Protection of Child Rights and called for its early reconstitution.
