Yingkiong, Jun 7: The District Administration Upper Siang in association with Mother’s Vision, Aalo organized an awareness programme on the ill effects of drugs and substance abuse in society under the aegis of Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan at Govt Higher Secondary School, Yingkiong on Friday.
In his key note address, DC Hage Lailang said that “it is very important to educate our children about the ill effects of drugs and substance abuse which has become a threat to society and a challenging global problem.”  He further said that in order to keep the district  drug-free, the District Administration along with District Police is always vigilant and has done  tremendous work to eradicate and raise awareness on  drug related cases  in every village and every corner  to make society drug-free and a better place to live for the younger generations.
Reiterating need for collective effort from every individual of society, DC Lailang further said  that  administration, police and NGOs  alone cannot fight it unless and until there is all round support and cooperation to curb the menace of drugs. He requested each and every one to come forward  and inform the DA and the Police if they notice any drug peddlers and added  ‘your one act of alertness can save many life’.
Resource Person Kennedy Bagra, Mentor, Mother’s Vision, Aalo who is a well recognized crusader of drug menace in the state spoke on the ill effects of drugs and substance abuse. He elucidated on various facets of drug abuse and how it can prevented on time through self-awareness, family support   and collective effort from all stakeholders of society.  He advised youngsters to keep themselves engaged in sports and other creative works which they like to do to stay away from unwanted activities
Dr. Karo Teng, Senior Psychiatrist and MS, District Hospital Yingkiong who was also present on the occasion spoke on signs and symptoms of drug addicts and its prevention. He also informed about ten bedded Drug De addiction Centre Yingkiong where addicts are given treatment free of cost.
APWWS, Yingkiong Unit General Secretary Kosiang Pangkam  also spoke on the occasion.
Since its inception DDC Yingkiong has treated 62 patients all over from Upper Siang and other nearby districts. (DIPRO)
