PASIGHAT, Aug 29:  Minister for UA, LM and CA, Balo Raja inaugurated the much awaited multistoried PMC (Pasighat Municipal Council) and Town Planner’s office buildings at Gumin Nagar today.
Soon after inaugural session, the minister attended a public meeting held in the PMC conference hall. In his address Minister Raja stated that an innovative initiative by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, government of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched Smart City Mission (SCM) in 2015 to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local development and better technology as a means to create smart outcomes for citizens. Fortunately Pasighat was chosen under SCM and under the dynamic leadership of the Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the present government is making Pasighat into a thriving, sustainable economic hub, he said. It was intended to develop a replicable model that will serve as a beacon for other cities/townships of Arunachal Pradesh, added the Minister. 
Continuing his address, the minister further opined that effective and efficient planning and execution made Pasighat a top location for smart, connected and eco-friendly communities centered on education, research, entrepreneurship and tourism. Its redevelopment model will offer a wealth of opportunities for investments, creation of new jobs and revenue generation through developed infrastructure with a strategic focus on transit-oriented development. The minister informed that he was very impressed visiting the projects under Smart City Mission and expressed hope that the projects will ensure adequate water supply, reliable and quality electrical power supply, sanitation including handling of solid waste and sustainable environment ensuring public safety etc providing decent quality of life of citizens, in days to come. He urged the officers and leaders to work with missionary zeal and to maintain team spirit and further appealed the senior members of the society to guide the young generation to guard, preserve and maintain the assets once created by the government. The new improved public realm will help reconnect the city back with its ecosystem at the same time, shape new ways for people to engage and socialize, said Raja. 
Earlier this morning, the minister visited the newly constructed VKV School, old PMC building, market area upgradation and recreation centre. 
Guest of Honour, local MLA Er. Tapi Darang in his brief speech gave many suggestions for betterment of the township and stressed on immediate posting of MEO and creation of new posts for official and sanitary staff meant for PMC. He while highlighting the additional development needs of the fast growing Smart City, asked the executing agencies to complete all kind of construction works at the earliest possible so that the market building (s) can be allotted to the local business community. Before concluding his address, Darang urged the minister to revisit Pasighat and appealed for grant of more developmental projects for Pasighat in future.
