TAWANG, Oct 17: In a tragic accident, two linemen of the Tawang Power Department were fatally electrocuted while repairing a power line at Temilo, near Changprong village today.
The victims have been identified as 27-year-old Tenzin Lotey, son of Jambey Lotey from Gispu village under Lumla Sub-division, and Vikash Kumar, son of the late Jangi Ram from Gopalganj district, Bihar.
According to initial investigations, the incident occurred after a group of four casual linemen had finished restoring power lines at Seru and were attempting to fix a fuse at Temilo. While setting up a ladder against the pole, the ladder slipped and made contact with a live 11,000 kV high-tension wire. The resulting shock instantly claimed the lives of Tenzin Lotey and Vikash Kumar.
Wangchin Tsering, 44, another lineman on duty, was thrown aside by the impact but survived. A fourth lineman, Tenzin Jambey, who was standing farther away, was unharmed.
Preliminary findings suggest that the crew had forgotten to turn off the Changprong power line before proceeding with repairs. A case of unnatural death has been registered under Section 194 BNSS at the Tawang Police Station, and an investigation is underway.
Vikash Kumar, one of the victims, was the primary breadwinner for his family, which includes his mother, brother, and two sisters. Postmortem examinations for both victims are scheduled for tomorrow.(with input from MTV).
