NAHARLAGUN, July 18: Transport Minister Ojing Tasing today chaired a review and consultative meeting of the state road safety council held which was attended by Chief Secretary Dharmenra, Commissioner Transport Vivek Pandey, ADGP Vivek Kishore, DIG Vijay Kumar, Sepraj Perme SP Traffic (High way PWD),Director NERIST among others.
Terming the meeting as need of the hour, the Minister advised the officers to do their duty politely and as team work.
During rainy season where roads are damaged then it is the duty of the highway department and all concern departments to improve and maintain that particular road within 24 hrs, he said.
Stating that capital roads are the mirror, Minister Tasing also urged the concern department to maintain every district road in proper condition. Regarding the proposal for installation of traffic lights in all busy junctions in Itanagar, the Minister requested the department to include Pasighat which is also one of the oldest towns in the state. Underscoring the need to control reckless driving on the highway, he called for night patrolling. Tasing also asked the police to maintain the timing of Bars and Resorts.
Chief secretary in his speech called for serious efforts to stop accidents and suggested to conduct Road Safety meeting every three months. We have large percentage of accident in our state, he said.
Earlier Commissioner Transport welcomed all the members attending the meeting and briefed them about all the issues pertaining to road safety management and to bring a qualitative change in road safety in the state. Thereafter SRS Officer presented action taken report of the last council of meeting, outlining the action taken by the SRSIA and other stake holders, the number of accidents in the state, the analysis of the black spots and the major discussion points.
