ITANAGAR, Nov 3: A four-day training programme on “Incident Response System” organised for administrative and police officers and District Disaster Management Officers by the Department of Disaster Management in collaboration with National Institute of Disaster Management, New Delhi concluded at DK Conventional Hall, Itanagar today.
IGP, Law & Order, Chuku Apa who graced the valedictory function as chief guest appealed to everyone to be always ready to respond in case of any eventualities. Stating the Incident Response System as one of the finest response systems in the world, he advocated for periodical drills among the members of Incident Response Teams. Stating that a mistake from a single member may lead to failure of the whole system, he exhorted all to be updated with the responsibility assigned to the designated members. He mentioned the need for regular training among officers and other stakeholders for better preparedness in future. He advised them to be innovative during times of disaster and asked officers to involve local communities, trained AAPDA Mitra volunteers, and community volunteers as they are the first responders during times of disasters. He cited an example of recent glacial lake outburst in Sikkim to highlight the vulnerability our state faces as we have similar geographical features.
Secretary, Department of Disaster Management, Dani Salu stated that good preparation is paramount in responding to disasters mainly in hilly regions like Arunachal Pradesh. He informed that though the department conducts numerous mock exercises across the state on earthquake scenarios every year they were not seamless which necessitated this training to meet the high expectation from the disaster managers. He acknowledged the District Administration and Police department for detailing the participants who will be the first responders and they should be well versed on IRS.
Shekher Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor during his concluding remarks highlighted that such trainings are fruitful when it is utilised. He advised the participants to use the IRS whenever a situation arises. He assured participants that NIDM will always be ready for any assistance in terms of training and capacity building in the field of Disaster Management. 
Director, Department of Disaster Management, Komkar Dulom and C. Wanglat, Deputy Director also spoke on the occasion.
