ITANAGAR, May 8: The Arunachal Pradesh Trade Union Federation (APTUF) has once again made a strong appeal to the State Government, urging immediate attention to its long-pending Charter of Demands, which it describes as essential to ensuring justice, dignity, and fair treatment for thousands of workers across the state.
Despite some issues being partially addressed over time, the APTUF Secretary General Kenkar Yomcha, in the press conference held today, expressed concern that several core demands remain unresolved, reflecting what it called a lack of comprehensive commitment to the welfare of the working class. APTUF emphasized that contract, contingency, and daily wage workers—who contribute tirelessly to the state's development—continue to be denied equal pay for equal work, a fundamental principle of fairness that remains unimplemented in practice.
In its renewed statement, APTUF highlighted the urgent need for the extension of social security benefits such as pensions, provident fund, health insurance, and gratuity to unorganised and contract-based workers, arguing that the absence of such provisions leaves a large section of the workforce vulnerable and insecure.
The Federation also called for the appointment of dedicated Labour Welfare Officers in every department to monitor workers’ conditions, address grievances, and ensure that labour rights are upheld. It noted the lack of safety and welfare measures, including the provision of safety gear, health checkups, rest areas, and compensation in case of injury or death on duty, calling it a serious lapse in worker protection.
APTUF further stressed the importance of skill development and training programs for casual and work-charge employees to enhance their job performance, productivity, and potential for regular employment. It concluded with a strong demand for the establishment of a transparent and time-bound policy for the regularization of long-serving temporary, contingency, and ALC workers, which it described as a long-overdue step towards employment justice.
Calling the situation a test of the government's sincerity towards labour welfare, APTUF urged the authorities to initiate constructive action without further delay. 
"Every worker, regardless of employment status, deserves dignity, security, and equality," added Yomcha.
