ITANAGAR, Aug 17: The All Arunachal Pradesh Trade Union Federation (AAPTUF) has reiterated its charter of demands during a press conference held on Saturday, with a strong call for the regularisation of workers in the engineering department and other sectors.
Speaking to reporters, AAPTUF General Secretary Kenkar Yomcha emphasized the union's demand for the creation of a one-time Work-Charged (WC) post in the engineering department. He pointed out that many workers have dedicated their lives to the department, serving like regular employees, and should therefore be absorbed as permanent staff.
Additionally, the union is advocating for the enhancement of grade pay for WC employees, reflecting the value of their long-term service. Another key demand is the exclusion of the Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) post from the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB) recruitment process.
The state government has assured that contingency staff who have served for at least 15 years will be absorbed as regular employees. AAPTUF expressed gratitude for this initiative but stressed the need for further action, he added.
The union is also urging the state government to increase the existing wages by ₹3,000, expressing hope that the government will fulfill this demand. Other important demands include the regularization of ALCs, the implementation of the Golden Handshake scheme with a compensation of ₹10 lakh, or offering contingency or casual jobs to the kin of retiring workers under the scheme.
Further, AAPTUF called for the declaration of a gazetted holiday on May 1st to honour International Labour Day, recognizing the contributions of workers across the state.
The union hopes that the state government will take swift action to address these demands, ensuring fair treatment and recognition for all workers in Arunachal Pradesh.
