KHONSA, Nov 20:  The Tirap district administration launched the Corneal Blindness Backlog Free Campaign in district which was inaugurated by Incharge Deputy Commissioner Lim Modi, on November 18 last at General Hospital Khonsa.
During the campaign, survey team from the health department will visit all the villages in the district and screen  visually impaired people who are 50yrs and above for cataract and mobilize them for surgery at General Hospital Khonsa later this month. People detected with cataract will be picked up and dropped back after surgery.
The DC exhorted the health workers to meticulously plan and visit every village so that every single case with cataract is detected, operated upon and vision restored. He also assured full support and cooperation from the District Administration.
Dr Taba Khanna, SPO National programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment said that due to Covid-19 many people with corneal blindness were left undetected in India and in Arunachal Pradesh as well. Hence the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had set a target of 27000 cataract surgeries in Arunachal Pradesh till 2025.
