ITANAGAR, July 18: The Upper Subansiri Galo Students’ Union (USGSU) has raised significant concerns regarding the recent proposal for the mass transfer and posting of teachers within the district.
Speaking to reporters, General Secretary USGSU Dinel Richi stated  that the union has submitted a representation to the Education Minister seeking his intervention on such a move, especially in the middle of the academic session. This kind of mass transfer could have adverse effects on the education system and the future of students, he said.
The mid-academic session transfer has drawn widespread criticism from both the general public and the student community. The USGSU claims that the transfers appear to be politically motivated rather than based on legitimate grounds, which could set a negative precedent and tarnish the State Government's reputation.
Schools in the Dumporijo constituency are already facing a severe shortage of subject teachers. The mass transfer could further cripple the functioning of schools, particularly Government Higher Secondary School Dumporijo and Government Higher Secondary School Maro, where 4-5 teachers have been recommended for transfer from a single school.
He also added that, the local teachers are crucial in teaching third languages (local dialects) and fulfilling the State Government's goal of preserving and promoting these languages. The transfer of these teachers would undermine efforts to promote the learning of third languages in schools.
The USGSU further warned of possible democratic agitation from the general public and student community in Dumporijo.
