ITANAGAR, Nov 30: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) has expressed deep anguish over the incident of scuffle and physical abuse of many minor children of Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA), Itanagar, by few senior students of the same academy.
Citizens were shocked over a viral video purportedly of the SLSA where students were seen being physically assaulted, which was later established to be incorrect. However, it co-incidentally revealed the occurrence of senior students indulging in ragging and physical abuse at the Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy.
Member Secretary Khoda Rakhi who visited the SLSA and interacted with the Principal Likha Vidha today, was informed that all the students have been sent back to their families and the school will remain closed for a week. Later during discussion with Tadar Appa Director (Sports), the Member Secretary sought a copy of inquiry report from the committee constituted in this regard and sought strict action against all those found involved in the case. She also observed that though this may be the first case of physical abuse in the academy, however, the occurrence of such incident in the past cannot be completely ruled out, and thus required deeper inquiry.
In addition, she also requested all stakeholders, electronic & print media to maintain the confidentiality of identity of the minor victims and assaulters involved in the case. She also appealed to all the School Administrators and School Management Committees of both the Govt and Private schools, educational institutions, especially residential schools and institutions to inspect the occurrence of such similar incidents within their respective institutions and give awareness to all the students on prohibition and reporting of any incidents of ragging to the concerned authority.
Finally, the Member Secretary requested the state government for expediting the early constitution of the new Commission which has been lying vacant since the expiry of tenure of the last Commission in August this year.
