CHANGLANG, Jul 12: In a severe disruption caused by heavy rains, the Khimiyang-Panlom Road between Thamlom and Lungsang villages has collapsed, leaving five villages in Khimiyang Circle under Changlang district isolated for over ten days.
The collapse has made it nearly impossible for residents to access essential services and supplies, exacerbating the challenges faced by these communities.
Local authorities have initiated earth-cutting operations over a 120-150 meter stretch to restore the road. However, officials estimate that it will take more than two months to complete the work, prolonging the isolation and difficulties for the affected villagers.
The impact of the heavy rains extends beyond the road collapse. Flood mud has severely damaged the Wet Rice Cultivation (WRC) land of five families in Thamlom and Wafang villages. These lands, situated just downhill from Thamlom village, are now covered in debris and silt, posing a significant threat to the primary source of livelihood for the affected families lamented a Villager.
Meanwhile, in light of these challenges, the villagers have made an urgent appeal to the government for immediate assistance. They are requesting the rapid restoration of the road connection to ease their isolation and ensure access to essential services. Additionally, they are seeking help to protect and rehabilitate their WRC lands, which are crucial for their sustenance and economic well-being.
