PASIGHAT, Apr 21:  In a significant initiative aimed at fostering national discourse on electoral reforms, a seminar on the theme ‘One Nation, One Election’ was held at Gidii Notko, Pasighat. The event, organized with the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), brought together national leaders, regional representatives, academicians, and an enthusiastic student audience. The seminar featured former Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi as the keynote speaker and was coordinated by Tobom Dai, former AAPSU general secretary as  the event’s coordinator.
Kaling Moyong, president state BJP present as the chief guest and Retd group Captain Mohonto Pangging Pao as the guest speaker. The seminar served as a platform for dialogue on the proposal of synchronizing Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections across India—a concept that has gained significant political momentum in recent times.
An interesting highlight of the event was the interactive session with students from across the region, including those from Arunachal Pradesh University, Rashtriya Raksha University, and Doying Gumin College and many other several scholars from Arunachal Pradesh. The session opened up a space for the youth to directly question and engage with the political leadership on the complexities of simultaneous elections.
From questions on constitutional amendments to concerns about regional autonomy, students present  held discussions on critical perspectives. Leaders responded with thoughtful explanations, asserting that the One Nation, One Election proposal would reduce electoral fatigue, minimize disruptions to governance, and significantly cut down election-related expenditures.
Meenakshi Lekhi, in her keynote address, made a strong case for electoral reforms. She emphasized that synchronized elections would "enhance administrative efficiency and ensure better policy continuity, ultimately benefiting the people of India." She also pointed out how the current system of frequent elections leads to constant political campaigning, delaying developmental work.
In an exclusive interview, former MLA Nyamar Karbak, who played a crucial role in organizing the event, stated: “This bill is a bold step toward strengthening the democratic foundation of India. It’s about empowering citizens through stable governance and a streamlined electoral process."
