ITANAGAR, Mar 14: Days after taking over the mantle of Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President, Takam Sanjoy today said that the Congress will rise and regain its glory as common people still have faith in it.
Referring to the 2014 assembly elections where people gave the Congress a thumping majority, Sanjoy a former Member of Lok Sabha (West) while speaking to reporters at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan said, that though former Congress MLAs and PRI leaders merged with the BJP but the common people of Arunachal are still true followers of Congress.
‘We will pull-up our socks for the ensuing Panchayat election and Municipal election of 2018 by working from the grassroots level,’ he asserted.
Taking a dig at the BJP, Sanjoy said that the BJP is making a mockery of democracy and added ‘we don’t want any force to trouble this state and will take to the streets if anything goes against the interest of the state and its people.’
Claiming that the people of the state are tired of disruptive political atmosphere which saw three Chief Ministers within a year’s time, he also rebutted rumours of halting of funds by the Centre if another party is in power in the state.
‘No authority can stop fund from the Centre to its states. Central government have to provide fund under the ambit of Fourteen Finance Commission (FFC). Congress has ruled the country for more than 15 years and no state had been barred from central fund,’ he asserted while urging MLAs to come back to their original party fold.
Terming Sanjoy as an experienced leader of the Congress, former President APCC, Padi Richo urged the Congress workers to extend all out support for the resurgence of the party in the state.
