PASIGHAT, Sep 2: Sainik School East Siang (SSES) team will take part in the Under-17 Boys Subroto Cup International Football tournament 2024 being held from September 2-11 in the national capital.
The team comprising of 15 Cadets will be are competing with Assam, International Social Studies Olympiad (ISSO), Sri Lanka and Uttarakhand under Pool A. The finals are set for September 11 next. It is a matter of pride for the state that the lone Sainik School of Arunachal Pradesh has qualified for Subroto Cup International Football Tournament among 33 Sainik Schools and is representing the Sainik Schools Society and the state.
Earlier the Jersey unveiling ceremony was held at SSES on August 28 last in the august presence of Colonel YS Parmar, SM and Principal Sainik School Goalpara, Assam. Since the inception and institutionalisation of the Cup only three Sainik Schools viz Chingchip, Goalpara and Imphal have participated and played the tourney.
Subroto Cup International Football Tournament is a prestigious inter school football tournament that is held annually in New Delhi being conducted by Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society under the aegis of Air Force Sports Control Board in which the champion school teams of Under 17 and Under 14 Boys and Girls from all states, Union Territories of India and foreign nations viz Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Israel, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri-Lanka, Sweeden, Switzerland, UAE, United Kingdom, Ukraine and Uzbekistan participates in this tournament. The inaugural tourney was played in 1960 and in last 62 years more than 20 million students participated in this tournament.
