ITANAGAR, Oct 9: The All Arunachal RTI Activists Association (AARTIAA) has filed a complaint against six engineers of the Water Resources Department (WRD), Pasighat Division and the proprietor of M/s Agam Construction for the alleged embezzlement of Rs. 35 Crore in the SIC.
The association alleged that an amount of Rs. 35 Crore sanctioned for the construction of a flood control protection wall around Mebo Constituency, under East Siang district was entirely embezzled by the officials and the proprietor of the construction firm.
Addressing reporters at the press club here today, AARTIAA President, Tania June said that RTI documents reveal that the WRD, Pasighat Division, East Siang district has sanctioned 35 Crore against the scheme, ‘anti-erosion/flood protection works on the left bank of Siang river at Mebo side to protect Sigar Ralling, Mottum, Kiyit, Borguli, Seram, Kongkul, Namsing, Gadum and Mer villages and the vast agriculture land of the district’.
During the ground verification of the work, it was found that the funds had already been siphoned off from the centre, but not even a single structure was constructed for the aforesaid purpose, June claimed.
He also informed that the villages have been flooded with continuous rainwater, forcing the villagers to shift to other areas. Some poor villagers with minimum income have nowhere to go and no one to provide relief funds/materials, forcing them to live in miserable conditions.
He appealed to the state government to revive the misused funds and use it for the structural construction of walls for the safety of the villagers.
The association has also submitted a representation letter to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) for the CM’s intervention in the matter.
The association demanded the state government for arrest and termination of all those officials involved in the misuse of funds, and revive the total amount for its initial purpose. It has also demanded to blacklist the firm involved in the corruption.
“We will take the fight to the Court and also launch a democratic movement if the state government fails to address and fulfill our demands,” he added.
