ITANAGAR, Oct 28: In A brazen theft incident, an ATM engineer’s bag containing Rs.1.5 lakh was stolen from an ATM booth in Itanagar on Monday.
Dipak Deori (24), employed with Hitachi Payment Services Pvt Ltd, reported the incident to the Itanagar Police at 5:00 p.m. According to the FIR, the theft took place around 2:00 p.m. while Deori was conducting a cash test at the booth.
Earlier Deori had collected `1.5 lakh from the State Bank of India’s Itanagar branch to test a Cash Deposit Machine (CDM). During this time, an unidentified person reportedly took advantage of the situation, sneaking into the booth and stealing the bag containing the cash.
The police have registered Itanagar PS Case No. 194/2024 under Section 305(a) of the BNS and have launched an intensive investigation. Officers quickly arrived at the scene, collected CCTV footage, and questioned Deori and SBI staff. Alert notices have been issued across the Capital Complex, and all checkpoints are on high alert, informed SP Rohit Rajbir Singh(IPS).
Law enforcement authorities continue to search for the culprit and have assured the public of all necessary measures to swiftly apprehend the individual responsible for the theft, added SP.
