Doimukh, Oct 13: NSS volunteers of Rajiv Gandhi University today organized a mass pledge and tree plantation programme as part of the culmination of the Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign.
The day-long programme consisted of Amrit Kalash Yatra from the University’s main gate to the Wall of Heroes point with the slogan ‘Anek Bhasa Anek Pradesh, Meri Maati Mera Desh”. Thereafter, the gathering took the Panch Pran Pledge in bilingual mode.
Vice chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha, who led the tree plantation drive in his speech, said Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and to commemorate the 75 years of independence of India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements and threw light on the journey of the independence of the country. He further emphasised on the importance of respecting the motherland, following the system as well the importance of loving the nation with an earnest feeling of nationalism.
He further opined that, the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav with the “Meri Mati Mera Desh” campaign gives true value to it is tagline `Mitti ko naman, veeron ka vandan’ in the honour and appreciation to the martyred bravehearts and thus it had become an embodiment of all that is progressive about India’s socio-cultural, political and economic identity and said that as an Indian one should do anything and everything to upkeep it’s dignity.
The Dean of the faculty of Education & Sports Sciences Prof. T. Lhungdim in his short speech emphasised on the national integrity and its importance, skill India and promotion of peace.
University’s Joint Registrar Dr. David Pertin, who joined the observation as a Special Guest while appreciating the efforts of all the NSS volunteers spoke on the need to inculcate patriotism.
Programme Officers of NSS, RGU unit Gomar Basar, Dr. Manju Tage, President of RGUEA Biro Taba, over all incharges of NSS-RGU unit Raja Bos, Mintu Kuli and Marina Panyang also spoke. The events were coordinated by the NSS volunteer quartet of Huri Talo, Bengia Jirnia, Ainam Megu and Karjum Gangkak, which was enthusiastically attended by faculty members, officers and 260 NSS volunteers of the university.
