Doimukh, Jun 6: An awareness program on new criminal laws was organized by the Department of Law and Women Studies and Research Center, Rajiv Gandhi University at the Department of Law.
The programme began with words by Vice Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha which was followed by opening remarks by Prof.Elizabeth Hangsing, Direcor, Women Studies and Research Centre, RGU.
An overview of the three new criminal laws namely, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023; and Bharatiys Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 which are going to replace the three existing major criminal laws namely, Indian Penal Code, 1860; the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973; and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 respectively from 1st July 2024 was lucidly presented by Dr.Manoj Kumar, Assistant Professor, RGU.
Dr. Topi Basar, Associate Professor and Head Department of Law, RGU deliberated and highlighted the laws relating to women and children in the new criminal laws. Thereafter, an interactive session also took place wherein participants representing various stakeholders such as students, staff, teachers, advocates and mediapersons and members of the public interacted with the speakers. The programme was followed by a quiz competition for students participants wherein two Universal’s Criminal Manual (Hard Bound) as exciting prize were given to two top scorers Ms. Ngamchai Wangsu and Mr. Ogam Boli.
