Doimukh, Dec 16: Department of Anthropology, Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh organized a one-day hands-on workshop on Forensic Examination of Fingerprint. This workshop is organized as an extension activity of the PG diploma in Forensic Science which is introduced in the department of Anthropology, RGU from the academic session 2023-24.
In the workshop more than 40 participants, mostly research scholars and postgraduate students and faculty members from within the department and other departments of RGU attended the workshop. Prof. P.K. Chattopadhyay, one of the pioneers in the field of forensic science remained as the resource person for the workshop. He is a former professor from the department of Forensic Science, Punjabi University, Patalia who is also known across the globe for his contribution in the field of Forensic Science.
The workshop was divided in two session: In the first session Prof P.K Chattopadhyay delivered a talk on “Introduction to Forensic Examination of Fingerprints” wherein he talked about the origin of use of fingerprints for personal identification since the time of Harappa Civilization and then eventually became an integral part of Forensic examination across the globe. Interestingly, he also highlighted on the significance of Fingerprints in Forensic examination, especially for Crime Investigation and Trial; The second session was on Hands-on-training of Forensic Examination of Fingerprints wherein he demonstrated in details about how to recover latent fingerprints from different surfaces using various methods.
