Itanagar, Jun 26: International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, was observed across Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday with various programmes organised to generate awareness on drug abuse.
In the state capital, Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta flagged off a mass rally of school students today at Itanagar and Nirjuli in the presence of ADC Datum Gadi, Corporator Techi Mema, DDSE ST Zara, GS IMWA Nanu Taw and a host of other officers, teachers and public.
Around 500 students from GHSS Arunodaya, Arunachal Valley public school and GHSS Nirjuli enthusiastically took part in the rally chanting the slogan ‘say no to drugs’. As part of efforts to generate awareness on drug abuse, Nukkad Natak was performed by NCC students of Mallo Tarin GHSS Itanagar at Akashdeep Market Itanagar and near NERIST Market area in Nirjuli which attracted audiences from different walks of life.
The DC emphasised that the theme for this year ’The evidence is clear: invest in prevention,’ highlights the urgent need to address the complex challenges posed by drug abuse and illicit trafficking. She stressed on the importance of preventive measures to eradicate such evils, while stressing that it is our collective responsibility to combat the detrimental effects of drug misuse on individuals, families, and communities. She said that the day provides an opportunity to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse and the impact of illicit drug trafficking.
“By increasing awareness, we can reduce stigma, encourage healthy behaviours, and support those affected by substance use disorders,” the DC said.
Various other activities were also conducted in the schools of Capital Itanagar to mark the occasion.
TAWANG: The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed across major educational institutions in Tawang district with several awareness programs.
At the Higher Secondary School in Tawang, Superintendent of Police DW Thongon and Dy.SP Taso Kato led an awareness program.
While at Higher Secondary School in Lungla,members of All Dhagpa Pangchin Students Union, Superintendent of Tax and Excise and Narcotics, Lham Tsering, along with teaching staff, conducted awareness sessions.
Manjushree Vidyapeeth received a generous donation from retired Tibetan Settlement Officer Thubten Wangyal on this day, consisting of 19 computers, a laptop, and a printer for establishing smart classrooms.
I/c Deputy Commissioner Tawang, Sang Khandu, expressed gratitude for the donation and
emphasized the importance of computer literacy and staying updated with technology. He also commended padmashree awardee Lama Thupten Phuntso, founder director of Manjushree Vidyapeeth, for his efforts in uplifting the underprivileged.
The Tawang Monpa Employees' Society, led by its Secretary General Kesang Norbu, organized an awareness and motivational talk at Secondary School Bomba. DPC ISSE Tawang, Dondup, DDI Tsering Drema, and other members encouraged students to uphold good citizenship and steer clear of drugs and antisocial activities.
SEPPA: The East Kameng District Administration joined the global community today in observing the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking. This year's theme, "Nasha Mukt Arunachal," underscores the urgent need for collective action to combat the devastating impacts of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The event highlighted various initiatives aimed at tackling the issues of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, emphasizing the importance of community involvement and collaboration.
Yingkiong: Upper Siang District Police observed the day by organising a rally to raise awareness on drug abuse and illicit trafficking here at Yingkiong town.
The rally was joined by all the rank & files of District Police, Adi Baane Kebang (Apex, Women wing &Youths), VKV school, Yingkiong & District Hospital Yingkiong Drug De-addiction Centre officers and staffs. Soon after the rally, a short speech from the side of Drug De-Addiction Centre, Yingkiong, ABK Apex, Upper Siang district Unit and Police were kept as an awareness for the students of VKV school, Yingkiong at general ground wherein participants were sensitized on ill effects of drugs.
Meanwhile, DC office Yingkiong and various other Departments observed the day by taking the pledge and commitment to fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
