ITANAGAR, Jun 19: The Minister Science & Technology, Dasanglu Pul has assumed the office of the Chairperson of Centre for Earth Sciences & Himalayan Studies under Department of Science & Technology on Tuesday. She took a review meeting of ongoing and completed projects implemented by the Department of Earth Sciences in the APSAC conference hall at Civil Secretariat.
Director, Centre for Earth Sciences and Himalayan Studies, Er. Tana Tage made detail presentation on the local meteorological services catering to the state by using data captured from the Automatic Weather Stations and Heliport Aviation Observing System that have been installed across the state, jointly by the IMD, Ministry of Earth Sciences, and Centre for Earth Sciences and Himalayan Studies. He informed that the Centre had already installed two high end Seismological Observatory Stations at Bomdila and Daporijo to detect and monitor the seismic activity and also informed that the North East Data Centre for Seismology will be established at Itanagar by the National Centre for Seismology, Ministry of Earth Sciences. NCS has already initiated the procurement of Hardware and software for the Data Centre through GeM portal.
Detailing the potential of harnessing green energy, Director informed that intensive field survey has already been carried at potential sites of Dirang, Damteng, Thingbu, Mago, in Tawang and West Kameng and Gyaping in Kra Dadi and Walong in Anjaw District by the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, Oslo and Geotropy, Iceland. Geochemical analysis has successfully done at Laboratories of National Institute of Hydrology, (NIH) Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT),Roorkee and Bhatinda in Punjab Central University, he informed.
Director also disclosed that scientists are undergoing one month extensive training at Himansh Station located at Chandra Basin in Himachal Pradesh on present and future cryosphere hazard assessment of the Hydropower infrastructures due to Glacial Lakes Outburst Floods (GLOF) and training being also imparted to set up Monitoring Stations at Khangri Glacier Basin located in Tawang District of Arunachal Pradesh by the highly experienced scientists from the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Ministry of Earth Sciences.
Expressing satisfaction over the performance, the Minister said society should be served fullest with the science-based research activities and its outcome should be convergence with the developmental planning process.
