DOIMUKH, Feb 2: In a meticulously planned operation, the Doimukh police busted a fake gold racket and seized 1.3 kg of counterfeit gold.
The operation was led by Doimukh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) under the supervision of Papum Pare Superintendent of Police (SP) Taru Gusar, following intelligence inputs about individuals from Laluk, Assam, attempting to trade fake gold biscuits and coins in the region.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a motorcycle near the Doimukh welcome gate around 7:20 pm and detained two suspects. Subsequent interrogation led the police to Nirjuli, where their accomplices were arrested. A tempo carrying a fake gold bar weighing 1.3 kg was seized, SP Gusar informed.
The accused have been identified as Baharul Islam (29), Mofikul Islam (29), Inamul Haque (32), and Ajijur Rahman (21), all residents of Fatehpur, Bihpuria, Assam. During questioning, they admitted to attempting to sell the counterfeit gold to a prospective buyer from New Delhi, whose identity remains undisclosed.
Authorities have launched an investigation to identify other individuals linked to the racket and determine the extent of the fraudulent operation.
In light of the incident, SP Gusar has urged residents of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly those in Papum Pare district, to exercise caution while purchasing gold and other valuables. He emphasized the importance of verifying the authenticity of precious metals before transactions to avoid falling victim to fraud.
