MAHADEVPUR, Oct 29: In a successful operation on Saturday, law enforcement authorities from Mahadevpur Police Station, along with CRPF personnel, apprehended a suspected drug smuggler in the Sitpani Miri village area. The operation, led by AK Pandey, the Officer in Charge of Mahadevpur Police Station under the Supervision of SP-Namsai , resulted in the seizure of approximately 11 grams of a yellow-orange powder believed to be heroin.
At around 5:00 PM on that day, the team, consisting of Abo Wangpan, Chow Kanan Namchoom, and CRPF personnel from the 186th Battalion's G-Coy, set up a checkpoint to conduct routine inspections. During their patrol, they noticed a person, identified as Ashok Kumar Bhujel (57) from Kailashpur village, PS - Bordumsa, District-Tinsukia, Assam, acting suspiciously.
When Bhujel was questioned, he attempted to flee, prompting a chase and his eventual apprehension. To ensure transparency and impartiality, the police team requested the presence of two independent witnesses, Ganesh Sonwal from Khowji village and Bharat Sanwal from Janglai Village, who willingly cooperated.
In accordance with the law, a thorough search of Ashok Kumar Bhujel was conducted under the provisions of Section 50(5) of the NDPS Act and Section 100 of the CrPC. This search yielded a plastic soap case containing a substance suspected to be heroin. The total weight of the suspected drugs was recorded at 11 grams.
The authorities promptly initiated the legal procedures, securing the necessary documents and a weighing scale from the police station. In the presence of the independent witnesses, the suspected drugs were officially weighed and subsequently seized.
