ITANAGAR, Jan 8: A disturbing incident at Genesis Watch Store in Akashdeep Complex has prompted swift action by the Itanagar Police, resulting in the arrest of six individuals so far. The police continue their investigation and have appealed to the public for assistance in identifying additional suspects involved in the violent assault and vandalism.
According to the complaint filed by store owner Takam Tanio, the trouble began on 7th January at approximately 11:30 AM when Lezen Gyadi, President of All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU), along with three others, allegedly attempted to forcibly take two watches without making payment. However, Tanio managed to intervene, ensuring Gyadi paid for one watch before leaving, informed SP Itanagar, Rohit Rajbir Singh(IPS).
The situation escalated later the same day at around 4:00 PM when a group of 10–15 unidentified individuals, some reportedly masked, stormed the store in the owner’s absence. The assailants vandalized the shop, assaulted staff members, and caused property damage worth several lakhs. They also forcibly took away two DVRs containing CCTV footage and abducted two staff members.
The abducted staff were reportedly taken to Gyadi’s residence, where they were unlawfully confined. Upon learning of police involvement, the perpetrators released the staff and fled the scene.
A separate representation from the Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) raised concerns over potential violence and threats to the Akashdeep Complex and its members, allegedly by individuals affiliated with ANSU. This representation has been incorporated into the ongoing investigation.
The case has been registered under Itanagar P.S. Case No. 05/2025 for offences under Sections 61, 117(2), 138, 238, 310(2), 329(1), and 351(2) of the BNS, 2023.
SP further informed that two suspects, identified as Shiva Sonam Liyak (29) and Tado Techi Tara (23), were arrested within hours of the incident and by Wednesday evening, four more suspects were taken into custody.
Police have recovered one functional DVR containing CCTV footage, which is aiding in the identification of other suspects. CCTV footage of the incident has been released to the public, and the police have appealed for assistance in identifying the individuals involved.
SP Itanagar emphasized the commitment of the police to ensure justice and maintain public safety. He also urged citizens to report any information that could aid in the arrest of the remaining culprits.
