TAWANG, Nov 24: The State Information Commissioner, Sonam Yudron, conducted an awareness session on the Right to Information Act. She emphasized the importance of Public Information Officers (PIOs) providing accurate and timely information to appellants. SIC urged public authorities to proactively disclose information for transparency and accountability regarding public funds and outlined the duties and responsibilities of officers within their organizations.
The SIC highlighted instances where the Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission (APIC) had penalized PIOs for failing to furnish information promptly to appellants. She urged PIOs to promptly respond to appellants' requests and avoid unnecessary delays.
The Superintendent of Police, DW Thongon, praised the informative session, affirming its benefits for all attendees. He assured that all RTI inquiries would be addressed promptly, aiming to resolve matters before they escalate to higher authorities.
During discussion, an appellant inquired about provisions for inspecting projects, while PIOs sought clarity on conducting ongoing hearings at the commission. They also appealed to the SIC for measures to address appellants who fail to attend hearings and suggested streamlining information collection at the PIOs' office.
