Itanagar, Jul 24: While agreeing with the opposition Member Thangwang Wangham, about air pollution, hazards caused to the environment and public health by the Iron Smelter factory at Lekhi Village, Minister Environment and Forest Department, Wangki Lowang said that it is concerning for the people but unavoidable since industrialisation is also necessary for development.
Development and pollution is complementary to each other but permissible limit of pollution needs to be set, the Minister added.
Regarding the quartz consumption as a raw material in the factory in question, the Minister informed the house that there is no mining of quartz so far in the state, therefore the resources are not supplied by the government. So the question of royalty or revenue does not arise as far as the raw material for the factory is concerned, he added.
