PASIGHAT, Sep 14: “People must be trained to prevent disasters,” stated the Director, Disaster Management, Komkar Dulom today while addressing the trainee volunteers at the DDSEs conference hall Pasighat where a three-day village community volunteers training program is being conducted by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) under 100 days action plan with a mission to strengthen the communities for swift response during disastrous situation.
The visiting Director opined that with the growing population and rapid industrialization, climate change and global warming have become major challenges to the world thereby the world is becoming more prone to various disasters. Everyone should acquire adequate knowledge about disasters and preventive measures for a disaster resilient society, stated the Director. He advised the participating volunteers to take optimum benefits of such training programmes which would ensure immense benefits to society as a whole. Dulom further apprised that the government was planning such training programmes in all villages targeting everyone to know about basic skills of disaster response, in the days to come.
Meanwhile East Siang DDMO Tsangpa Tashi informed that under 100 days action plan the East Siang DDMA had selected 100 volunteers from 10 most vulnerable villages in East Siang and trainings were being imparted to the community volunteers in phase manner. In the 1st phase training was organized for 44 registered volunteers at Mebo. At Pasighat, 29 volunteers have registered and are undergoing training and remaining 27 volunteers would be provided training on preventive measures in the final phase at Ruksin. DIPRO
