ITANAGAR, Jun 12: Pema Khandu has been elected as the leader of the BJP Legislators’ Party and is poised to serve as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for a third consecutive term. This decision was overseen by BJP Parliamentary Board appointees, National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and Member of Parliament Ravi Shankar Prasad, who acted as central observers during the process.
Following his election, Chief Minister-designate Pema Khandu visited Raj Bhavan to stake his claim to form the state government along with both MPs, national observers from the party and few MLAs. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, MLA Chowna Mein, Tapir Gao, MP (Lok Sabha), Arunachal Pradesh State Bharatiya Janata Party President, Biyuram Wahge were also present.
Pema Khandu briefed the Governor about the meeting held today of 46 elected members of the Arunachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly from Bharatiya Janata Party in the recently concluded 8th Legislative Assembly election of Arunachal Pradesh. He informed the Governor that the 46 members of the 8th Arunachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly had unanimously elected him as their leader in the 8th Legislative Assembly of the State and stake his claim to form the government.
Expressing his gratitude to the public, Khandu stated, "I extend my gratitude to the people of Arunachal Pradesh for keeping their faith in the BJP once again and giving me another term as Chief Minister to serve the state." He reaffirmed the BJP-led state government's commitment to all-round development and emphasized their dedication to fulfilling the promises outlined in their manifesto.
The oath-taking ceremony on Thursday at the DK Convention Hall in Itanagar will see Pema Khandu and his council of ministers formally assume their roles, marking the beginning of another term.
However, the names of the cabinet ministers are still unclear and many former Ministers and senior MLAs are still waiting to get any clue from the CM designate as well as party observers till the filling of this report.
In a show of support and to oversee the transition, prominent BJP figures, including National President and Union Minister of Health JP Nadda, Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah, and National General Secretary (Org.) BL Santosh, are scheduled to arrive in Itanagar to participate in the swearing-in ceremony on June 13.
