Doimukh, Oct 18: The Rajiv Gandhi University, in partnership with the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) Naharlagun, organized a one-day voluntary blood donation camp today.
Registrar Dr. N.T. Rikam, RGU, engaged with medical professionals and nursing officers from TRIHMS, discussing the persistent challenges faced by hospitals due to blood shortages. He praised the dedicated work of the NSS Cell at RGU and expressed his strong support for conducting such events within the RGU campus, encouraging greater community involvement in this noble cause.
NSS Programme Officer, Gomar Basar, expressed gratitude to the donors for their selfless act and recognized their indispensable role in saving lives and extended his appreciation to TRIHMS for their unwavering commitment to this noble cause.
After the conclusion of the Blood Donation Camp, Dr. Tashi Paleng, MD in charge of the Blood Bank at TRIHMS, shed light on the urgent need to raise awareness about blood donation across every corner of Arunachal Pradesh. He emphasized the scarcity of blood in local blood banks, primarily due to a lack of awareness among potential donors and the general public, especially during emergencies. Dr. Paleng revealed the stark disparity between the 18,000 blood units required annually to meet patients' basic medical needs and the annual donation figure of just 8,000 units. This alarming shortage often leaves hospitals struggling to meet critical blood demands, with direct consequences for patient care.
