ITANAGAR, Nov 25: Mayor Tamme Phassang, Itanagar Municipal Corporation attended the vibrant Chalo Loku festival as the chief guest, encouraging the preservation of cultural heritage and unity among communities.
Hundreds of people especially from Nocte community residing in the capital region donning their traditional attire joined the celebration  organized by the Nocte Chalo Loku Festival Celebration Committee-2023 here at the TCL Festival Ground.
Extending festival greetings to the gathering on Saturday, Mayor said "Chalo Loku serves as a platform to strengthen the bonds among community members and promote understanding and goodwill among the people of the state." He emphasized the festival's role in fostering unity and urged the youth to safeguard their cultural heritage, referring to it as the "most important jewel" of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Chalo Loku festival symbolizes the harvest of paddy and the transition from the old season to the new one. Originating in 1968 in Khonsa, the festival's name is a poetic combination of "Chha" or "Chhalo" (paddy) and "Loku," derived from "Lofe" (to drive out) and "Kuh" (season), informed the organizing members of the festival.
